Christmas Tips & Ideas: Using Christmas baubles to decorate gifts

I have used Christmas tree baubles as decorations on gifts for many years.

They can be inexpensively bought from markets or shops and never fail to make a gift look glamorous and festive.

I usually team the baubles with the gift wrap and ribbon using silver with silver or red with red so that the baubles compliment the wrapping - but the choice is yours ... don't hold back .... go as wild as you like !

I use the hoop at the top of the bauble to thread the ribbon through and then tie the baubles into the gift with the ribbon

The finished effect is gorgeous and I can promise your presents will definitely look fabulous twinkling under the Christmas tree

So ... go on ... have fun with baubles this Christmas.

Till next time ...

Happy Wrapping !

Christmas Gift Wrapping Tips & Ideas: How to wrap a shoebox

I am often asked 'what is the easiest way to wrap a shoe box?'
I know people wrap them to send off for charity but they're also a useful idea if you have an awkward shape to wrap so I thought I'd give a mini tutorial on how to do just that.

  • Start with sufficient paper to go around the box base and fold over into the box by appx 4 inches
  • Then begin to cover the box by folding in the short edges of the box (this is the opposite of what you would naturally think to do as most people would start by folding in the long edges)

  • Next fold in the long edges, because you have started with the short edges the long edges should naturally form 'points'

Once all the edges are folded in start taping the paper to the inside of the box - tape all the way round the inside of the box
  • When you have taped the paper to the inside of the box, tape the folds on the outside of the box (this will make sure that the folds don't get caught and torn in transit)

  •  Repeat the same process with the top of the box, again starting by folding in the paper at the short ends of the box lid.

  • Ta dah .... your box is ready to fill with lots of lovely goodies.

I hope you've found this tutorial useful.
I'd love to hear how you get on - please write a comment
Thank you

All Good Stuff at Butcher Works

This week saw the opening of  new gallery shop All Good Stuff at Butcher Works on Arundel Street in the centre of Sheffield and I am lucky enough to have my work for sale there.

Their FaceBook page says it all ...
"All Good Stuff at Butcher Works is the first Gallery Shop to open under the All Good Stuff umbrella.  All Good Stuff is a non-profit Community Interest Company established in Sheffield in 2013 to promote all that is good about the region's burgeoning arts scene.

Our vision is of a virtuous circle - local designers, artists and artisans creating beautiful products and services, selling them and creating a surplus which will be re-invested in training and development to maintain the gallery shop, to support others to follow in their footsteps and to create related apprenticeship, internship, work experience, development and employment opportunities"

The gallery shop has the work of some fabulous local artists, designers and makers including Felt Like Art, Chic-ycow DesignsCodger Bags, Anne McGarry Marsden and Dotty Doodlem to name just a few

The gallery shop is open Tuesday to Saturday 10.30am to 5pm and a warm welcome awaits

Paper Bead Making Workshop @ Rebeccamaryjane's

Saturday was damp and dreary as I set off to Doncaster
but by the time I reached Rebeccamaryjane's Studio
the sun was shining as I was greeted by five ladies
eager for a fun packed Paper Bead Making Workshop.

Between the laughter and Rebecca's delicious home made cakes - old atlases, roadmaps, calendars and left over gift wrapping paper were used to create lots of gorgeous beads !

Each of the ladies happily went home with a necklace, bracelet and earrings all created and designed by themselves.

We had so much fun that I think we're going to do it all again later in the year.

Rebeccamaryjane's Studio is part of the Mac Gallery 12a South Parade, Doncaster DN1 2DY

She has a whole host of  Make & Create Workshops taking place so take a peep at her website for full details www.rebeccamaryjanes.co.uk - I know I will !
