Crafts in the Pen 21st & 22nd November - Skipton

Now you know I like something a bit quirky and different.  Well, this weekend will definitely be different as I'll be in a cattle pen with Crafts in the Pen at the Skipton Auction Mart.  Yes, you read that correctly .... a cattle pen .... along with over 100 other designer/makers I'll be converting Pen number 49 into my own miniature gallery in order to exhibit and sell my work.

So if you fancy doing your Christmas shopping somewhere just a little bit out of the ordinary this might just be the event for you.

There's an entrance fee so check out the website for full details.

I definitely have a Spring in my step here at UU HQ - there's so much going on.

I love this time of year as everything is fresh and new, it's the perfect time to have a good old tidy round in my workshop and put together ideas for upcoming workshops and events.

I'm busy preparing Framed Heart orders and gift wrapping commissions as well as getting everything together for my next event at the Off the Wall Vintage & Handmade Wedding Fair where I'll be providing workshops throughout the day making wedding favours and poly ribbon bows which are perfect for decorating church pews/gifts/wedding cakes etc.

The workshops are just £2 per person and last round 30 minutes (all tools and equipment are provided)

Well, that's all for now - don't forget you can keep in touch with everything that's happening in my Wrap & Roll World via facebook, twitter, pinterest, website and here on my blog (there really is no getting away from me !)

See you again soon x

Egg-cited about Easter Eggs !

The clocks have gone forward, Easter is just around the corner and it definitely feels like Spring is on its way.

Easter eggs are tricky things to wrap so I thought you might like to see this cute triangle wrapping technique which came in handy when I was asked to wrap oodles of mini eggs for an Easter Egg Hunt.

Equipment needed:

  • Wrapping paper (11cm x 9cm)
  • Scissors
  • Double sided tape
  • Mini Easter eggs

Step 1 - Cut your wrapping paper to size - I used paper 11cm x 9cm as I was only putting two or three mini eggs in each wrap but you can scale yours up to whatever size you need it to be.

Step 2 - Fold the paper into equal three sections and stick double sided tape along each of the long sides and one of the sorter sides (on the non patterned side of the paper)

The next bit is a little tricky as you will have three sticky edges so be careful!

Step 3 - Stick the shorter edge to the edge without the tape (on the outside ie patterned side of the paper) to form a tube.

Step 4 -Stick just one of the other two edges together to make a little pouch

Step 5 - Pop your mini eggs into the pouch then close the top of the pouch in the opposite direction to the first to form the triangle

These Easter treats are perfect for little fingers and look fab in a basket ready for the Easter Bunny to hide in the garden.

Have a wonderful Easter and Happy Wrapping !

A 'Crafternoon' Project: How to make a quick and easy gift bag

These pretty little paper bags are both quick & easy to make and very versatile - they can be used as gift bags, party bags or just for keeping your special bits and pieces in.

I used gift wrapping paper to make my bag but you could use gift wrap, old books/comics, sheet music, wall paper etc.

Equipment:-
  • Scissors
  • Selotape
  • Double sided tape
  • Bone folder
  • Pencil
  • Rule
  • Paper (35cm x 23cm)
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon to decorate

1. Start by making the top of the bag.  Lay the paper on the table landscape ways and draw a line 2cm from the top of the paper

2.  Fold the paper on the line making a good crease with the bone folder (if you don't have a bone folder use the back of your scissors) then stick double sided tape along the top edge of the paper and fold over the paper to stick.

3.  Next divide the paper into three sections 1 x 8cm, 1 x 16cm and 1 x 11cm wide working from left to right.  (Tip: to help you do this draw lines for the sections) fold the paper on the lines making good creases with the bone folder.

4.  Stick double sided tape along the 8cm (left) edge of the paper then stick the left edge to the right edge to make a tube

5.  With the paper tube flat on the table (portrait ways and the seam facing you) make a fold 7cm from the bottom of the tube use the bone folder to make a good crease (this is going to form the base of the bag)

6.  Open the bottom of the tube (ie the bit you have just folded up) and push the sides in to make 'points' use the bone folder to make creases.

7.  Fold up the bottom 'point' then fold down the top 'point' so that they overlap by 1/2cm  - again use the bone folder to make the creases.

8.  Stick selotape across where the two 'points' meet to secure the bottom of the bag

9.  Now place your hand in the open end of the bag and push out the bottom to form the flat base for the bag

10. Now it's just the finishing touches and the bag is ready to go. Pop your gift in the bag then fold over the top and use the hole punch to punch a hole through the centre of the fold.  Finally thread a pretty ribbon through the hole and tie it in a double bow

Ta dah all finished

I hope you've enjoyed my 'Crafternoon' Project

I'd love to hear how you get on, please leave a comment or a photo of your gift bag.

See you next time - Karen xx
